Speir Launches Apprenticeship Program

At Speir & Associates, we believe great companies are built by investing in great people. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Georgia Department of Labor, the U.S Department of Labor and Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) to offer the Speir & Associates Apprenticeship Program.

This structured training program is designed to develop skilled electricians, future leaders and long-term careers in the electrical industry. This partnership allows our employees enrolled in the program hands-on field experience while building the technical knowledge needed to be successful in today’s electrical industry.

It’s More than Training, It’s a Career Path

There are so many benefits for our employees who enroll in the Apprenticeship Program. You can earn while you learn, there’s credentialed training and no student debt. In fact, all classes, books, fees, parking fees, exam fees, tuition, tools/equipment, and wages will be covered by Speir & Associates and federal and state grants. The skills you gain from the program are even transferable. The goal of the program is simple: create highly trained, skilled, and well-compensated professionals who take pride in their work and contribute to the future of the industry. Our hope is to create a strong pipeline of future electricians and industry leaders.

The apprenticeship program is structured into three levels, allowing employees from different backgrounds and experience levels to enter the program where they fit best. After completing the probationary period, employees are placed into one of three apprenticeship levels based on their knowledge, qualifications, and experience:

Level 1 (L1)- Apprenticeship for Helpers

Level 1 serves as the foundation of the program. Apprentices learn essential job site skills, safety practices, tools, materials, and the fundamentals of electrical work. This level builds the groundwork for long-term success in the trade.

Level 2 (L2) – Apprenticeship for Electricians

Level 2 focuses on expanding technical skills and increasing responsibility in the field. Apprentices continue developing from basic electrical knowledge into more advanced applications and problem-solving abilities.

Level 3 (L3) – Apprenticeship for Emerging Leaders

Level 3 is designed for employees who are ready to take the next step into leadership roles. This level helps develop communication, project coordination, leadership, and management skills needed to guide teams and oversee projects successfully.

At Speir & Associates, quality craftsmanship starts with quality training. By investing in apprenticeship and leadership development, we are building a stronger workforce while continuing to deliver the top-quality work our clients expect.

The future of the electrical industry depends on skilled professionals who are willing to learn, grow, and lead — and the Speir Apprenticeship Program is helping make that future possible.

The Real Cost of Electrical Delays on Commercial Projects

Delays in commercial construction can often result in escalated costs sometimes extending your overhead by 20%-30%. These costs add up because every day you delay, the cost of materials and labor rise. Here are a few major cost drivers:

Rise in Cost of Materials

Due to inflation and tariffs on certain materials, even a few months delay could lead to you paying close to 15% more for materials like steel or copper.

Idle Equipment

Contractors still pay operating costs for equipment on site, including cranes and lifts, plus standby labor.

Overhead Costs

Longer projects increase costs for trailers, insurance, and staff supervision.

At Speir & Associates we pride ourselves in getting the job done right the first time and in a timely manner.
